Get started with your GemCam

This guide will walk you through connecting your GemCam to your computer and configuring it for first use. The entire setup process takes less than five minutes.

Step 01 · Unbox

Unbox your GemCam

Open the box and confirm you have all the necessary components to get started.

Step 02 · System Check

Check your computer's compatibility

Ensure your computer meets the minimum requirements for optimal performance. Note that GemCam is not compatible with iPads.

What kind of computer are you using?

Mac

Use the GemLightbox macOS App with macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later.

Pro tip: GemCam may work on systems below these specifications, but performance cannot be guaranteed. For the best experience, meet the recommended requirements.

Step 03 · Connect Hardware

Connect your GemCam

Plug your GemCam into your computer using the included cable and power it on.

  1. 1Plug the USB-C cable into the GemCam and an available port on your computer.
  2. 2If your computer does not have a USB-C port, use the included USB-A adapter.
  3. 3Press the power button on the GemCam.
  4. 4Confirm the green indicator light on the GemCam is on.

Pro tip: Make sure you are using a high-speed data transfer cable. Charging-only cables will not work and will prevent your computer from detecting the GemCam.

Step 04 · Configure Software

Set up the GemIQ app

Log in to the GemIQ app in your web browser and select the GemCam as your capture device.

  1. 1In Chrome or Edge, go to hub.gemlightbox.com and log in.
  2. 2When your browser displays a permission prompt, click 'Allow' to connect the GemCam.
  3. 3Click the 'GemCam' button in the control panel to activate it.
  4. 4Confirm the GemCam toggle is on and your device's serial number appears.

Pro tip: For the app to detect the camera correctly, always connect and power on your GemCam *before* opening the GemIQ app in your browser.

Step 05 · Optional

Connect a GemLightbox

If you are using a GemLightbox or GemLightbox Pro, connect it via Bluetooth for integrated lighting and turntable control.

  1. 1Ensure your computer's Bluetooth (version 4.0 or above) is turned on.
  2. 2In the GemIQ app control panel, click the 'Device' button.
  3. 3Choose the correct device type, then select your GemLightbox by its serial number.

Pro tip: To avoid pairing conflicts, turn off Bluetooth on any other devices, like your phone, that were previously paired with your GemLightbox.

Once your devices are connected, you can adjust camera settings, control your lighting, and start capturing professional-quality images and videos of your jewelry.
